Brief
Ideas: Short film
1- This idea is about two teens who are around 12 years old and they want to go out exploring so then they text each other about meeting at around midnight and one of them is unsure about it because his mum told him its dangerous to be alone at that time of night all alone, the other boy convinces him and they end up getting mugged so they run away and their parents do not know where their kids are and they start to become worried.
|
2- This idea is based around the end of the world type of scenario but not only do the people have to survive, but they also have to be careful of enemies and they have to find their children because their children went missing in the crowd of people that ran past, one character fro example is a dad who has lost both his wife and children and this is good in terms of being accurate when aiming it my target audience.
|
3- This last idea is about someones child being bullied at school and they parents don't even know about it so when the dad phones the son he doesn't realise that his son is being bullied and its not until later on when the parents find out what has been going on and i think that its a sad ending because nothing gets solved in the end and the bully at the school gets away with it.

Ideas: Music video
1- Pump It by The Black Eyed Peas
this idea is about two groups of boys who decide to race their cars and there will be shots of them turning corners and the loser of the race has to buy drinks so at the end we see the loser group buying the drinks and they go out partying afterwards and the loser group starts hitting the other groups car and then run away. |
2- Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden
for this video there will be a man (protagonist) who will be going about his daily life and then he bumps into this girl and because shes in a rush he doesn't catch her name and we see shots of him at work frustrated as he didn't catch a name or number and then when work finishes, its late and he goes back to where he saw her and looks but then he has to go because its late and then he sees her on his bus and he gets to talk to her. |
3- This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan
there will be some people around 40 years old and then this song comes on and it will remind them of the 90's and there will be flashbacks of them when they were younger and the song would come on in the club and it will show how different the times are now. |
Ideas Survey Results
this first question was to choose which idea I would do for the short film, and the top voted answer was the first idea which is my personal favourite out of the 3. some people chose the last idea but I don't really like that one as I think the first one is a lot better, so I am glad that 77% chose the first idea.
|
even though there is a draw between the last two ideas I think I will do idea number 2 as people in the interviews enjoyed that idea, I personally preferred the first idea but after looking into it I think that idea number 2 is a lot better in terms of making sense. I spoke to a teacher about what to do in this situation and I was told that idea 2 was the better option for me to do

Short FilmFor my short film i will be doing the first idea out of the three options. the film starts off with a conversation between two boys who are good friends one of them being 11 years old and the other boy who has just turned 12. they boys are having a conversation and they want to organise to hang out after dark at around midnight. the 12 year old boy is excited about the idea and is trying to convince the 11 year old boy to come hang out at midnight with him. the 11 year old however is not so certain that its safe and goes on to explain that his mum informs him that its dangerous to go out at night. the 12 year old convinces him that its fine to hang out at that time of night. eventually when they go out they tell their parents that they are just going to stay round each other's houses. when its midnight they are walking around and they're both convinced that its safe until they bump into the wrong people and they have to run away meaning that this is a chase scene. eventually they get caught and they are mugged and are beaten up by the bad people they bumped into and they begin to walk home.

Music VideoFor my music video i will be doing the second idea out of the three options. the video starts with a man rushing because hes late for work so we see him rushing through the street trying to get to work on time. we see him bump into this girl and he drops his bag, they go to pick it up at the same time and he ends up picking it up. we see him looking at her in amazement and we see her smile and wave and run because shes also late. he shakes his head to wake up from his day dream and we see him run to work. then we see shots of him at his office work daydreaming about the girl he saw at the start of the video and we see his boss telling him to focus on his work. after this its the end of the day and its dark, we see the man leaving work and running back to where he saw the girl from the morning we see different camera angles of him searching around for her, eventually he gives up and goes to a bar for a drink because he is sad. we then see the girl who he has been looking for come in an sit to the bar next to him. we see her smile and wave towards him and we see him look at her in amazement.

Proposal
Rationale
in terms of my skills i learned in my first year at The Henley college i learned how to use softwares such as adobe audition and premiere pro. i also learned how to piece together different types of media such as a music video, short film, radio drama and a documentary. The skills i learned were how to do different types of editing cuts such as an L and J cut and parallel cuts. In terms of the camera work i learned how to do perspective and how to make things appear closer or further away from the camera, i also learned things like a wide shot, close up, long shot, medium close ups, rule of thirds etc. one of my favourite projects i worked on in the first year was the music video in unit 6, i enjoyed this as it was fun to plan and film and i like working with music. in terms of how these skills influenced my choice of discipline I'm working by myself so i cannot choose a discipline but in terms of what skills I'm good at, I am very good at editing so i will try and focus on that when it comes to it and i will make the editing clean and satisfying to notice when i edit my footage. I'm not so good at camerawork so i need to try and improve on that skill when I go out to film for my projects
Project concept
In terms of the concept i will be choosing the first idea out of the three for the short film, and i will be choosing the second idea out of the three for the music video. in terms of producing i want to try and make my music video production and short film as suitable as i possibly can to fit the target audience. i want to make sure both productions are done to a high standard and try and keep to my original ideas as best as i can. i will use the skills i learned in the first year to help me with my projects and i will make sure i work on my camera skills as i need to work on that.
Evaluation
In terms of evaluation i will be evaluating and going over my work at the end of each week by completing a weekly blog and asking my teachers about how i can improve my work and i will ask my peers about my work and what is good or bad about my work which i can then change my work to make it better .
Survey results
I was let down on my surveys as only one person responded to one of them. I think this is upsetting as I uploaded these surveys to a group page on Facebook and it was the official group chat for the residents of Marlow and it has just under 4,000 members and I feel like I should have received more responses. For the fmp i will reach out to more people and maybe look at other groups of other areas and reach out that way. im grateful for the one respondent but one response is not enough to be useful in research and i feel like these results let me down. I am hoping the interviews go better.

i think that this was a lot better than my survey results as the people i interviewed gave me some good feedback and opinions and it helped me to further my research and it helped me to understand that my ideas suit the target audience. they spoke about how they know my chosen song for the music video and in terms of the improvements for each idea they did not have any improvements for them which i saw as both good and bad things, because i would have liked something to improve on within my ideas and at the same time its good that they do not see any need for improvement in my ideas. i liked filming these as you can have a conversation with the interviewee and you get to talk about the question a lot better and you can ask other questions which are relevant and it helps get a better answer to the original question. in terms of research i feel like this benefited me quite a lot as i was able to understand the types of activities millennial's get up to and how they spend their money. overall this was a good research task because i was able to explain the questions and then get a better overall response from the people i interviewed

i enjoyed watching this video as its very retro and you can see that its an old video from the fonts and colours they have used. you can see that they have used a lot of neon colours such as; neon red, neon green, neon blue, neon yellow and neon pink. The use of spinning and moving shapes and special effects, for example the use of green screen shows that the song is up beat and happy. as you can see they have very colourful clothing on and the clothing is what the style was back then and this is generally what pop music videos looked like back then. I feel this suits my target audience quite well as it is very 90's style and my target audience grew up with this type of music style. I like the use of bright colours in the video because they help to show the type of emotion portrayed throughout the song. As i have mentioned before the emotion is joy and or happiness and we can also tell this by the actions of the singers in the video, because they are up on their feet dancing. in terms of things like camera angles, the camera angles shuffle between extreme close ups, close ups, medium shot and a long shot. the use of different camera angles helps to keep the video unique and the timing with the beat helps the video to be more satisfying when watching it. in terms of what elements i will take from this video, i will take the different camera angles and shots to help the audience see the area clearly, and the facial expression on the character clearly. Although i like the green screen effects in the video i wont be using any for my idea as it wont be necessary. The use of different sounds such as instruments is very old school and its relevant to the target audience because like is aid before, they grew up with this style of music.

I like this music video as it shows them recording the song in the studio. I chose this as it shows creativity and i like the style they went for because its simple but its also original. This fits the target audience because this was the style of music they enjoyed listening to and still listen to to this day because they grew up with it. i like the use of colour because its only in a studio and they have kept it simple. as you can see from the style of clothing, its an old fashion and they are wearing fairly plain colours. In the video we can see Mariah and Boyz ll Men not only singing in the studio but also chilling out and i think this helps the audience to understand that the song is chilled out and it gives off that calm vibe. similar to this video i will use realistic backgrounds and i will film on the location instead of green screening it. like i mentioned before this suits the target audience because of the style of clothing they are wearing and their clothes are old-fashioned and you would rarely see people dressed in a similar style nowadays. After studying the camera angles in the music video, i have noticed that the angles and shots are shaky and i feel like it helps to create that homemade chilled vibe because you can see shots of them listening to each other sing and you can see them using the equipment to create the music. The warm colouring and lighting helps to create that warm, chilled out vibe that they went for in the video and the use of colour and lighting really helps to create emotion in a video and i want to do the same in my productions.

After watching this short film i discovered that its really well made and its detailed in terms of its camera angles and lighting. i noticed that the short film is mostly monochrome, but its saturated and the colours are sharp. Its obviously supposed a version of a James Bond film which i think they have done well with because at the end they include the music. in terms of genre, my short film will also be a thriller as well as and there will be an intense chase scene as well as this but the narrative will be different. one thing i picked out was the sound effects when they punch, and they aren't realistic which lowers the quality of the scene but i also know how hard it is to make punching sound realistic. in my production i will try to make the punching Foley sounds a lot more realistic than they do in this short film. at 1:34 you can see that the camera looks down on the woman to show that she is not important and she is made to look small and and we notice that she tries to come forward to appear bigger and more important in the shot and when she gets closer we see that the camera changes to focus on the main character and it changes to show he wins the fight in the scene in the chase scene i like the use of the camera angles because they are shaky camera angles it helps to make the scenes more intense even tho the chase scene in this is long its still interesting to watch. in my short film i will make the colouring in this short film because the colouring is not too saturated and its sharp and its monochrome which shows that the short film is intense and serious.

The start of this video is very interesting because of the way the car noise from one ear to the other in terms of the channelling which is a good feature. i also like how many questions you think of when watching it. similar to the other short film, they use sharp colouring in this to show that its an intense short film. this short film isn't exactly monochrome as the colours are more saturated and like i said the sharp colouring helps to show that its a thriller. the use of close ups on the phone show that the phone ringing is important and the guy on the phone is important. similar to this production i will use shaky handheld camera angles to help intensify the scene. one thing i do not like about this short film is the part where the guy is hiding, i think this drags on a bit. i think that the scene after the crash is effective as it has some choir type music to make it seem sad and i want to make the ending of my short film similar in the scene where the boys were beaten up, i will have this style of music over the top of it. i feel like watching this short film has helped me because it has shown me the different type of camera angles such as handheld/shaky camera angle is a lot better than a still shot because it is effective in chase scenes. i have also learned how the music can also help portray the mood of a scene and i noticed how different the camera work is. for example the camera slowly zooms out at the end and makes it seem less intense but more effective in terms of getting the emotion across and i will use this in mine because my production is a silent short film.
