Importance of portfolio
The importance of a portfolio is to show off your work to people, and get people interested in what you do and what you like to do. It's a good way of promoting yourself and interesting any potential clients. It's a good way of getting clients interested and they can learn about you and what to expect from you.
Matt Harney
The first thing you notice from Matt Harney's website is the simplistic theme and the colour scheme which is only two colours green and white and he as kept it nice and simple. What i like about the website is that he says good afternoon to you making you feel involved, what i also like is that it says "good afternoon" which helps me to understand that the website is updated daily . The colour green shows that Matt is quite a calm person and he is environmental friendly, the pencil being the only thing red in the image shows that Matt is traditional and is creative with pencil and paper the graphics used to create the image shows a lot about matt's skill level and what he can achieve. Things on the table such as the cat show us that Matt is quite friendly and likes cats. what I also like is how much information he gives you about him and his work which is useful for clients to understand what sort of experience they would get with him.
Studio Thomas
Looking at Thomas's website you notice the simple blue background and then a lot of images start to appear one by one, I think the back ground is a nice touch because its simplicity means the pictures stand out more and they become more interesting to look at. The theme of the website is quite simple and, like I said before, his work then stands out and personally I think this is a great way to show off work. I found it quite enjoyable to scroll up and down the website because different pieces of work can be spotted, for example his Pamban Café graphics design which is unique and if you scroll down the camera moves so that you can see different features of the graphic design. I think that Studio Thomas has made a lot of images appear to get possible clients interested because they have a lot of things to look at and understand and this is a good way of promoting work. Martin Parr is a famous photographer and he is one of their clients so they feature his work on the home page to promote their site. They also feature some of his most famous work which varies from documentary type photos to playful photos.
Made Thought
The website looks quite professional and smart and I think that the serif font gives it a formal look. You cant scroll down because when you go to scroll the image in the background changes which I think is a nice feature for a website the navigation is very basic which means that you can focus more on the work being displayed in the back. The home button is the title at the top "made thought" which is quite unique because that makes the home some what difficult to find, but not too difficult. What I like about this website is how well they have shown off the work there are still pictures, animated pictures and videos, also the image above with the pears and flowers is animated because the flowers slow fall to the fabric one by one and I think that this makes it more interesting than just having still pictures throughout. A feature that I have noticed is the menu in the top left corner which gives you a page and at the top of the page it says "made thought" and underneath it says "to make" "to think" which is "made thought" but in the future tense and if you click on them you get images and descriptions of work that are coming to the page and there are dates underneath the pictures and this is helpful for potential clients.
