Rationale
Reflecting on my progress so far on this course I feel like I have improved in terms of my skills because there were things I couldn’t do before the course started, for example I didn’t have any idea on how to use Premiere Pro and Audition now I know how to use it to create a basic edit. I have also got better at working independently which I think will be helpful for my final project. I can now use a camera properly and I can film and edit which I didn’t really have an understanding of before. I am now better at reaching deadlines which is helpful. I have chosen to do a radio drama as I think they are an effective way of showing creativity and i think that Foley sounds are interesting in terms of how they are made and what effect they can have on a piece i want to improve my script writing ability as i want the script to seem more realistic and personalised when the actors read them, for example i am going to include names in the script so the audience can understand who the character is speaking to. |
Project Concept
I want to do a radio drama because they are a good way of showing creativity. I want to do a radio drama because the ideas can be limitless and you don’t film anything so for example you could do a radio drama set in space. In terms of my skills I want to show that I can reach deadlines on time which would be helpful as I wouldn’t fall behind on my work and it means I won’t be stuck with much catch up work to do and my focus can be on the next piece of work. I want to show that I can produce a good standard edit using Audition and implement good Foley sounds into my radio drama. I will change and improve my work depending on the feedback I will receive from peers. After sending out a survey asking which idea people would like to see, peers have decided they want me to go through with the radio drama idea which is helpful as I want to that idea as it is a good way of showing creativity and when I come to recording it I will go to the studio and use some of the radio equipment to record my audio and then I will edit with Audition. the genre of my idea will be mystery which i think is quite fun and interesting because there arent any visuals meaning that i can make the piece as mysterious as i want and it will give the audience a lot to think about. |
Evaluation
In terms of evaluation I will evaluate my work in the form of weekly blogs where I can go over the work I have done in the previous week, each weekly blog is a small evaluation I can complete in order to reflect and I can see where I am in terms of my work and if I need to add anything or finish anything off another way I will evaluate my work is that I will ask peers for feedback. evaluating myself will mean that i can make it seem more relevant for the target audience which helps, and by evaluating myself i can use it as a way of reflecting and improving my work. |
After receiving a couple of responses from peers, i have noticed that the majority of them have chosen my 3rd idea which is a radio drama. This is useful because i want to do a radio drama as i think they are interesting. 25% chose the first idea and the other 75% chose the third idea which was helpful, i also think you can be more creative with a radio drama because you aren't limited with ideas.

Final Idea
For my final idea i will do a radio drama because i think that they are a good way of showing creativity, i want to do a radio drama because i like the fact that the ideas are endless and you don't have to film it so you could make any story up and it would still be interesting. my idea will be about a group of teenagers who go exploring in the shady part of their home town and they come across this abandoned underground railway system and being teenagers they become curious and decide to explore in order to answer their questions as to why its there and what happened for it to become abandoned so they explore the rail way system and discover that its quite eerie and they hear trains and wheels screeching but there aren't any working trains down there so that helps to create an eerie feel to the story. As they venture further through the abandoned railway they get lost and then all of a sudden start to hear voices and eventually they discover people living down there. they are terrified at first but they are told why those people are down there, they learn that these people are happy living down there but the people tell the teenagers to never go back down there because they don't like people going down there. |
in this question i asked my peers what they thought was good about my piece and 5 of the respondents replied which was helpful and after looking at the feedback i have understood that they liked the idea. overall the respondents said that they thought the idea was interesting which is good as i tried to make the idea quite interesting
|
for this question i asked my peers what could be improved in my piece and only 3 out of the 5 people responded which wasn't really that helpful but i can work with the given feedback because one person said that the idea doesn't need improving, and the other people said the actual story line needs improving which i will work on the idea as there are many different events that could possibly occur which i will think about when i improve on the idea.
|
Evaluation |
my evaluation will be in the form of weekly blogs as they are good ways keeping track of work, and i can talk about and reflect on the work i have done by answering multiple questions in each weekly blog, which means that i will have a good idea about the work that i have done. i like doing weekly blogs as they are a good way of staying on track and being organised with my work.

Competition
information about it
The idea of BBC sounds is to make it more mobile friendly for people on-the-go and to try and target the younger generation of young adults. I think the BBC sounds commissioning is suitable because they want to get a lot more different podcasts and radio dramas on to the app. If you look at the priority list you can see that they want new podcasts that will engage younger audiences
